Five Advantages and One Drawback of the GMC Sierra 1500 Pro Trim

Is the Pro trim of the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 right for you? That’s a great question, and its answer largely comes down to what you’re looking for in a truck and whether you want a lot of advanced features or not. When you come to us looking for a GMC Sierra 1500 for sale, you’ll find many options, including eight possible trim levels that represent significantly different versions of this pickup. The Pro trim is the starting point that all other trims build upon, so it has the standard features and far fewer enhancements than what you’ll find on a Denali or similar option. If you want a truck that keeps things simple or you’re putting a fleet together, then the Pro trim could be absolutely perfect for you, but that all comes down to what you need. Let’s take a closer look at five of the big advantages and one potential drawback to consider when figuring out if this is the Sierra 1500 trim you’ve been looking for.

Advantage #1 – Five Configurations Available

It’s easy to get hung up on higher trim levels because of the great features and options they offer (we’ll get to how that is an advantage for other trims in a little bit), which is fair. This means a lot of our customers overlook something important: the Pro trim is the only Sierra 1500 that GMC offers with all five possible configurations for this truck. In particular, this means you can get the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Pro with a regular cab designed for only three passengers, giving you just one row of seating inside. This cab is offered with either an 80-inch standard bed or a 98-inch long bed; it’s actually the only version of this truck with this long bed.

There’s also a double cab available with the standard bed, which you can get with three different trim levels, including the Pro. Otherwise, the larger crew cab that’s offered with a 70-inch short bed or the standard bed is available in all of the different trim levels. Only the Pro trim can be found with all five of these possible combinations, and it’s the only one offered with a regular cab. If that’s something you’re interested in, then this is definitely the trim to focus on. Again, that’s perfect for fleets and similar applications but not ideal if you want five passengers and lots of luxury features inside your truck.

Advantage #2 – Easy on the Budget

One of the biggest advantages of the Pro trim is that it’s the starting point for the GMC Sierra 1500, which means it is also the most budget-friendly option. Let’s say you’re interested in the double cab configuration, which is offered in several different trim levels: the difference between the starting Pro trim and the next SLE trim is over $7,000. You get a number of great upgrades and features with the SLE, of course, so that makes sense, but if you’re trying to keep costs down when looking at your next work truck, this can be a major issue to consider. We have plenty of people who come to us looking for a simple, straightforward truck without a lot of bells and whistles and wanting to stretch their budget, and something like the Sierra 1500 Pro is the perfect choice for that. Again, this entirely depends on what you need from your pickup, but it is something to consider.

Advantage #3 – Great Standard Features Inside and Out

Although this is the starting point for the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500, it’s still worth noting that you get a wide range of excellent features in the Pro trim. It has the standard TurboMax engine that delivers an impressive 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque, which is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This is plenty of power to make this truck enjoyable to drive, with muscle that ensures it has payload and tow ratings high enough to handle whatever you need. Two-wheel drive is standard with the Pro, but four-wheel drive is available. Plus, it has push-button start, a fully boxed frame, and electric power steering to provide a great time on the road.

You get 17-inch wheels on the Pro, along with chrome front and rear bumpers, including a CornerStep rear bumper that makes it easy to access items in the bed. LED headlights and tail lamps are standard, along with a locking tailgate and more. Inside the Pro, you’ll find a seven-inch infotainment display, a six-speaker sound system, and a 3.5-inch Driver Information Center screen, plus other features to keep you comfortable and safe on the road. It certainly doesn’t compare to the Denali, but if you want a simple truck to help you get your job done, then the Pro is ready for you.

Advantage #4 – Some Good Options Available

We should also note that while the standard features on the Pro are great, they’re also just that: standard. You still have available options and upgrades to consider even with this trim, so you can find it with packages that enhance the starting features or special-order a GMC Sierra 1500 Pro with more to offer. For example, some configurations can be had with a 5.3L V8 engine that offers 355 hp and comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission for boosted performance. Numerous exterior colors are available for the Pro, including Summit White and Sterling Metallic, plus you can upgrade to 20-inch wheels if you prefer them.

There are also plenty of packages available for the Sierra 1500 Pro, giving you more ways to customize or upgrade your truck. The Trailering Package adds a Hitch Guidance system that makes it easier to connect to a trailer or camper you need to tow, while a Convenience Package adds an EZ Lift assist tailgate with power lock and release, cargo bed LED lighting, and remote keyless entry, which makes it easier to let someone get something from your truck. You might not have the upgrade options on the Pro that GMC offers for other trim levels, but there are still plenty of ways to enhance what it comes with.

Drawback – Fewer Options Than Higher Trims

Now, to be completely fair, there’s no denying that you get less with the Pro trim, both in terms of standard features and available upgrades, compared to other trim levels. This is to be expected given the fact that it’s the starting trim and considering what a great value it represents compared to higher trim levels for the GMC Sierra 1500. Looking at something like the SLE trim, which is the next trim level up from the Pro, it comes with a greatly enhanced interior that includes a 13.4-inch infotainment screen, a 12.3-inch Driver Information Center display, and a 10-way power driver’s seat rather than the manually-adjustable seat that comes standard. Other trim levels take things even further, which is why GMC offers eight different options to choose from.

A Truck That Keeps Things Simple

The Pro trim can’t compete with something like the Denali or Denali Ultimate when it comes to luxury features and refined technology, nor can it compete with the AT4 or AT4X if you’re looking for incredible off-road capabilities. But it’s not meant to. Those trims are perfect if you’re looking for something incredibly sophisticated or want to do some serious off-roading in your truck; the Pro is for drivers who want to keep things simple. If you want a lot of upgrades and options, then one of the other trims—even the SLE—might be a better choice, but if not, the Pro is a great pick.
